Police Nab 24 Illegal Immigrants In Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Police arrested 24 illegal immigrants
after making four separate raids at two locations in Lahad Datu early
yesterday morning.
Lahad Datu police chief Supt Shamsuddin Mat said the men, aged between 20 and 50 years, were among the 62 individuals, including a woman, who were inspected in the eight-hour integrated anti-crime operation.
"They were arrested for failing to produce valid identification documents when requested to do so," he told reporters here today.
He said the operation, which began at 4am and went on till noon, involved 79 members of the Royal Malaysian Police, the Department of Immigration, National Registration Department, Lahad Datu District Council, the Civil Defence Department and RELA.
A 34-year-old man on the streets of Kg Panji was also arrested at about 10.30am on suspicion of drug possession.
Shamsuddin said police, with the cooperation of the various agencies will intensify the integrated operations from time to time.
The public are also requested to contact the nearest police station or call the operations room at 089-881255 to report the presence of illegal immigrants in their respective areas, he said.
