All quarters must not politicise rci — MACC

KINABALU: Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief
commissioner Datuk Mustafar Ali urged all quarters not politicise the
Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report relating to the illegal
immigrants issue in Sabah.
He said the MACC would take action and investigate every information received, including if the issue relating to the report existed.
“For corruption issue, we have taken a clear stand because we do not make any exception. MACC acts independently, transparent and professional in fighting corruption,” he said when presenting a lecture themed “The role of community leaders in fighting crimes” at the Sabah state level anti-corruption conference, organised by MACC here yesterday.
He was responding to a query from a participant on the 368-page RCI report which declared ‘Project IC’
had “more likely than not” existed through syndicates and corrupt officials as announced by Chief
Secretary to the Government, Sri Dr Ali Hamsa last Wednesday.
Mustafar said the all out fight against corruption in the country needed the highest commitment from all strata of the community, especially in terms of a change in mentality.
Some 340 participants from non governmental organisations, private sector, government-linked companies amd institutions of higher learning attended the programme in conjunction with World Anti Corruption Day being celebrated on Dec 9 every year.
The programme was organised to improve public perception on the current effectiveness of MACC and instill anti-corruption values in the fight against corruption. — Bernama
