239. Cheating by RCI IIS as per Hasnol.

Institute of Development Studies Sabah (IDS) is ready to assist the Government find ways to resolve the illegal immigrant problem in the states, its CEO, Datuk Mohd Hasnol Ayub said. Mohd Hasnol, however, stressed that at this point in time, there has yet to be any proposals for IDS to carry out a study on the presence of illegal immigrants in Sabah.
the question by Commissioner Datuk Kamaruzaman Ampon on whether the role of IDS is still the same as when it was formed in the 1980s, Mohd Hasnol replied: “The objective in terms of how it serves the government is still the same but in terms of what we do, it is slightly different now. This is because the government prioritizes the issue of security, he said, and pointed out that for now, there has been informal discussions on the matter and IDS will act upon it once instructed by the government to do so.
In replying to Chairman Tan Sri Steve Shim, Mohd Hasnol said that any policies that comes from the institution takes into account the illegal immigrant issue in Sabah. IDS, however, is looking more towards how to resolve the problems affecting the locals in Sabah and also towards the protection of native rights, he added.
